| Children studying on road in Nepal. |
We ( at least developed country) think education is free for everyone and its upto student to grab this opportunity. But its not true in developing countries from Africa and Asia where children cannot go to school because either there is no school or parents cannot afford to send their children to school. But around 2005/2006 a non profit organization from US in collaboration with IT company from different part of world introduce affrodable latop that will help to educate every children all over the place. On an average a laptop cost $100 and give opprotunity to be creative as well as their right to be educated.
We some time think about our self but we need to give credit to these people whose idea to share education to student all over world. You can check about their work on this link. Please also look at thier blogs and what they have done with their creative ideas. I hope this will inspire most of us to do something in collaboration and share with others.

We do take so much for granted. Thank you for the reminder that the basic, foundational education is not available to all. However, what a cool time to live in that we are making strides to make that educational experience more open to more people across the globe. Programs such as the one that you highlight are doing such great work to globalize education. Just think what the world will be like when everyone has access not only the foundational tennants, but a lecture at MIT. That will be amazing.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!!! I was thinking about this the other day. My husband and I sponsor a 4 year old in India. We can send special gifts for special occasions - in the form of money. The money is used to by things like mattresses, etc. Makes me so sad to think this little boy might not even have a mattress to sleep on. Then to look at his educational needs and think he may not have much in the way of technology, etc. also makes me sad. He may be a very bright child who literally doesn't have the means to become well educated. Even in America there are plenty of kids who don't have the money to buy laptops. I think as we move forward and start changing up how we teach our children, giving them the right technology and making it available to them will be critical.
ReplyDeleteThis is a topic, I think, that deserves much reflection and dialogue. the world has moved on in terms of technology with the basic ability to uss a computer an absolute prerequisite more the majority of jobs. Laptops should be available for every student, in every district, just liken textbooks.
ReplyDeleteTrechnology should be considered just part of the overall cost of education. we are a connected world and that will only increase in the future. Whether we are talking about developing countries or inner city districts here in the US that do not have the necessary funds. Putting technology not just in the classroom but in the individual hands of each student should be a national priority, as in the end education is our nation's best defense.
Please forgive all my typos above...it is 4am and I am making a lot of mistakes!
