The end of classroom?

I was reading an  article on how traditional class room are dying because of online classes, I was surprised first.
I  took history of American  higher education class last year and we  had  good conversation about online class vs  traditional class. Many thought that online classes has   long way to go to  replace by traditional classes.
But  when I read  this articles ,I think online classes will replace traditional classes . Because of advance technology, online classes  are becoming more interactive. Also online classes are banking on social media where people network ( collaborating) with each other on face book, blogs, twitter and youtube to get best education.

  1. I may be old school, but I still think there is a place for face to face, classroom training. I do agree that online training has gotten better and people are doing a better job of designing these types of classes, but I am not ready to let the traditional classroom go just yet.

  2. I agree with Sheila. But, I also think that we don't really know what might happen 10-15 years from now. After we've all retired from the workforce.

Who knows, maybe future generations will say - I learned all I needed to know from Wikipedia!

  3. While I believe on-line classes and distance learning are likely to increase over time, I find it highly unlikely that on-line learning will significantly impact the traditional university setting let alone replace it. There are way too many things that are best learned through synchronous learning in a face to face environment. After experiencing a recent class that was 85% interaction with other students, i am even more convinced that on-line learning is much more likely to augment traditional university learning rather than replace it.

  4. I have to agree with the wisdom of the crowd, here. There is something to be said for walking into a hallway with two other people and a flip chart with markers that you can't duplicate online.

  5. I agree as I am one that loves the classroom, the culture, the smells, the whole campus experience. But, I wonder if that doesn't cloud our whole reaction. I know a few colleagues who have thouroughly enjoyed their on-line graduate level experience and think I'm crazy b/c I go to classrooms. I think education, as with many other industries, will continue to evolve. I hope there is a blend, but maybe that's just because that's what I like . . .
